About the Working Group
The annual lipid day has been started in 1998, the first meeting was held in Shebin ElKom, Minoufiya attended at that time by about 80 experts in the fields of cardiology, Diabetes and cardiovascular protection. The extensive discussion during that meeting and the rapid progression in the knowledge in the field of lipidology and atherosclerosis raised the idea of repeating this meeting annually. From 1998 to 2003 the meeting was held annually in the second Thursday of Ramadan for one day activity. Since 2004 the Lipid day was joined by the annual interactive cardiology course discussing interesting cases with audio-reply system, not only in the field of lipidology, atherosclerosis and cardiovascular protection, but also in clinical and interventional cardiology. Since that time the meeting was held in Stella-Di Mare , El Sokhna, Egypt in 2 days activity. During The 8th annual Lipid Day (2005) the idea and proposed design of a multi-center clinical survey of the risk factor profile in Egyptian and Arab patients with acute coronary syndrome (The Egyptian Risk Factors and Lipid project) was discussed. The 9th annual Lipid day (2006) celebrated the founding of the Egyptian working group for Lipidology, Vascular Biology and Research (WGLVR), as a division of the Egyptian Society of Cardiology. The name of the meeting has been changed to CardioLipid 2006 to include the objectives of the working group. CardioLipid 2006 included, in addition to the 9th annual Lipid Day and interactive Cardiology Coarse, the 1st annual meeting of the working group.
